The Corrections Housing Pathways Initiative

The Correction Housing Pathway initiative program is provided to ensure ongoing support for women in prison who may be homeless or at risk of homelessness upon release. To also provide information and housing assistance for sentenced women to maintain their existing tenancies or to assist with locating appropriate accommodation options when release. This is provided through specialist housing assessment, developing individual housing case plans and matching women's needs with immediate and longer term accommodation and support options.

CHPI program assists women exiting correctional facilities and provides:

  • Assessment of short and long term housing needs for women including assistance to maintain existing tenancies for those who are on short sentences through applying for reduced rent for public housing, and advocating on the tenant's behalf.
  • Assistance to secure accommodation upon release in emergency accommodation, transitional housing, public housing and private rental
  • General housing information and referral to imprisoned women as part of the Community Integration Pre-Release Program.
  • Advocacy for and on behalf of imprisoned women and women in post release.
  • Complete Early Housing Application for clients upon release if necessary.
