Women in the Community Housing Sector:

Building a Workforce for the 21st Century

Flinders University's Institute for Housing, Urban and Regional Environments

Dr Sellina Tually, with support from Kaye Hampton and Marg Osborne.

This report presents the findings of research into the future career aspirations and career progression of women working in registered community housing organisations in Victoria.  The project was coordinated by Women Housing Limited (WHL) and funded by WHL and the Victorian Office of Housing.

The project investigated the current roles occupied by women in the community housing sector in Victoria, as well as their satisfaction with a range of aspects of their work life, career progression and professional development.

The study focuses on these aspects of work for women as we know little about the career experiences and aspirations of women workers in the sector; and, this remains the case despite the dominance of women workers in the community housing sector generally.  The study also examined how women see the sector and roles in the sector going forward.
